Biography

Mounia Akl is a Lebanese director and writer. She has an MFA in Directing from Columbia University. Her short film SUBMARINE (2016) was in the official selection at Cannes’ Cinéfondation, South by Southwest, Toronto and DIFF, where it won the Muhr Jury Prize. In 2017, Akl participated in the LEBANON FACTORY and co-directed a short film EL GRAN LIBANO, which opened the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes and also screened at other festivals including Sarajevo and BFI London. She is one of the six filmmakers at the 35th session of the Residence by Cannes Cinéfondation and will participate with her first feature “Costa Brava, Lebanon”.
