I used to be very anguished about the idea of being stuck to a single point of view of the material world through your entire life… Today when I think about it, I believe I got cured from this anguish through love and cinema, which are two beautiful ways of experiencing otherness.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1987, Alice Furtado graduated in film from the Universidade Federal Fluminense. In 2010, she directed the short film DUEL BEFORE NIGHTFALL, which was part of the La Cinéfondation selection at Cannes, and was presented at the 2012 IFF Rotterdam. In 2012, she entered Le Fresnoy school in France, where she wrote and directed the short film WHEN IT LIFTS ITS LITTLE EYES UP (2014) which won Best Short Film at the Pancevo FF. During this period, she was mentored by filmmaker Claire Denis, working as an assistant director on her short film HERE IS THE SEQUENCE (2014). She also works regularly as a film editor on feature films and TV series. SICK, SICK, SICK (2019) is her debut feature film and premiered at the Director’s Fortnight, Cannes.
