I wanted to go to my roots. Central Sudan, the city Madani is where my mother and father are from. And although I was born in Dubai, I spent five years there. The villages all the time we’d go there for weddings and such. I thought if I would make this film I wanted to go to places I know and I love.
Amjad Abu Al Ala is a Sudanese filmmaker who studied media at UAE University and has directed documentaries and fiction films in the UAE. As a producer and a director, he has helmed several short films that have screened at film festivals. His filmography includes: TEENA, COFFEE AND ORANGES, FEATHERS OF THE BIRDS and STUDIO, which was supervised by Abbas Kiarostami. In 2013 he won the Best Arabic Play award from the Arab Authority for “Apple Pies”. He currently heads the Programming Committee in the Sudan Independent Film Festival and is Sudan’s representative at the Arab Film Institute. His latest film YOU WILL DIE AT 20 (2019) was selected for the Giornate degli Autori.
