Biography

Marco Dutra's fairy tale inspired feature film GOOD MANNERS won the prestigious Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2017. This genre-bending feature marks his latest collaboration with longtime creative partner Juliana Rojas. Past projects with Rojas include THE WHITE SHEET (Cannes Cinéfondation) and A STEM (Discovery Award at Cannes Critics' Week). Their first feature, HARD LABOR, was a Sundance/NHK Award finalist and opened in Cannes Un Certain Regard in 2011. It received the Citizen Kane Award in Sitges the same year. A filmmaker and composer, Marco is passionate about the horror/fantasy genre and has a taste for making films that bring shadows and ghosts (both real and imagined) into the domestic spaces of middle class life. His solo projects include WHEN I WAS ALIVE (2014) which screened in Rome and Beijing Film Festivals, and The Silence of the Sky (2016) which competed in Tokyo, Huelva and Havana before opening worldwide on Netflix. He has also directed for the HBO Latino series The Hypnotist.
