Biography

Asmae El Moudir (director, editor and producer) has been working in cinema and audiovisuals since 2010. She has directed documentaries for SNRT, AlJazeera Documentary, BBC and Al Araby TV. Asmae has worked as first assistant director on multiple Moroccan feature films and has directed three short fiction films. She studied at the prestigious French school of cinema: La Fémis, where she produced THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY, to date her most awarded film. (Sao Paulo Short Film Festival, Mostra Film Festival, Malmo Film Festival, Beirut Short Film Festival, Fameck Arab Film Festival, Tangier National Film Festival, Africa Movie Academy Awards, and many others). Staging her family in a chronicle of the Friday couscous, and the story of her communist uncle Merzouk was a way of engaging with political repression under the regime of King Hassan II during dark years. Her current project, THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES, is a new step in her career, being as it is her first feature film.
