Biography

Born in Imola, in 1984, Margherita Ferri approached the world of experimental theatre and cinema during her high school years. In college she continued to shoot short films on her own. The films VIOLACIELO (2004) and RAMIRO (2005), produced by the City of Bologna, received special mentions in several Italian Festivals. In 2005-2006, thanks to a scholarship, she attended the School of Film and TV at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she completed the short film 1-800-CALL-GOD and the documentary 20MG. She then graduated in Communication Science at University of Bologna with a final dissertation about transgender imagery in the Italian television. At the same time she worked as a film programmer for the Gender Bender Festival in Bologna. In 2007 she worked as a production assistant and second assistant director on two Italian features. In 2008 she started the Directing Program at the National School of Cinema in Rome. She directed the short film EXTRA TIME and in 2009 she completed her first feature documentary WHERE THE ELEPHANT IS.
