Biography

He was born in Madrid in 1964 and studied Information Sciences at the Complutense University in Madrid. His career in the cinema began in 1992, when together with Luis Manso he founded the production company Pendelton Films. In 1995 he won his first Goya for the short AQUEL RITMILLO. With the premiere of THE MIRACLE OF P. TINTO (1998) he gained recognition as a director and screenwriter, and was nominated for a Goya as Best New Director. In 2000 he was one of the first people to create a series for the Internet, called JAVY Y LUCY, which had over two million downloads. In 2003 he directed MORTADELO ET FILEMON, based on the comic-strip characters created by Francisco Ibáñez. In 2008 he released CAMINO, a film that received six Goyas, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. IN 2015 his feature animation MORTADELO & FILEMON: MISSION IMPLAUSIBLE screened at Annecy Animation IFF. His most recent film CHAMPIONS had its North American premiere at Seattle IFF 2018.
