Biography

Born in Ankara, Turkey, based in Paris, France, Deniz Gamze Erguüven studied Directing at La Fémis and Literature and African History in Johannesburg. Her graduation short film UNE GOUTTE D'EAU was selected by the Cinéfondation of the Cannes IFF and awarded at the FF Locarno. She developed two feature film projects: TALES OF VIRTUE, co-written with Alice Winocour and produced by Aurora Films and KINGS, set in South Central Los Angeles. KINGS was selected by the 2011 Director’s Lab of Emergence, where the project was mentored by Olivier Assayas, the 2011 Atelier of the Cinéfondation of the Cannes FF and the IFF 2012 (Istanbul Film Festival) – Sundance screenwriter’s Lab. Her first feature film is MUSTANG. It was awarded with the Europa Cinemas Label at the Directors' Fortnight and won Best Film at the Odessa IFF and Sarajevo FF. It is currently on the run for the LUX Prize 2015.
