Biography

Alexey German Jr. (1976) was born in Moscow, but grew up in St. Petersburg. He studied at the VGIK in Moscow from 1996 to 2001. In this period he made various shorts such as LITTLE FOOLS (2001). THE LAST TRAIN (2003), his feature debut was screened at the 2004 International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it received an Amnesty Award, and in Venice it received Special Mention of the Jury for Best Debut. In 2005, his second feature Garpastum premiered at the 62nd Venice International Film Festival. For his film PAPER SOLDIER (2008) he received support from the Hubert Bals Fund, and won a Silver Lion for Best Director.
