Biography

Una Gunjak is a London-based director, editor and writer born on the 15th of July 1986 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A passionate storyteller and a devoted worshiper of the moving image, she became acquainted with the film world after discovering the works of Bresson and Rossellini at the Malraux Centre in Sarajevo. From 2004 to 2008, she completed a BA in Film Studies at the University of Turin (Università degli Studi di Torino) and then went on to complete an MA in Editing at the National Film and Television School in the UK from 2008 to 2010. THE CHICKEN marks her debut as a filmmaker and had its official premiere at the 2014 edition of Cannes' Critics' Week where it won the European Film Award for Best Short Film 2014 and went on to screen in the International Competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2015, New Films, New Directors 2015 and nearly 200 other festivals, winning along 45 awards so far. In 2017 she took part in the Lebanon Factory, which includes four short films to create one feature to open the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at Cannes Festival.
