Stephan Komandarev



Stephan Komandarev is a Bulgarian director, producer and scriptwriter. He is 2011 EAVE graduate and Member of the European Film Academy as well as Bulgarian Film Directors’ Association and Bulgarian Film Producers’ Association.

His first fiction film DOG'S HOME (2000) was premiered at the 51st Berlin Film Festival, International Forum of New Cinema, 2001. His previous fiction film THE WORLD IS BIG AND SALVATION LURKS AROUND THE CORNER (2008) received over 35 international film awards (incl. 11 Audience Awards) and was shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscar Academy Award (2009). Currently the film is theatrically distributed in 93 countries, which made it the most successfully internationally distributed Bulgarian film of all times. His last feature film THE JUDGEMENT (co-production with Germany, Croatia and Macedonia) had its world primere at the opening of the Sofia IFF. Most recently, Stephan Komandarev works on one fiction film in development – THE OTHER MAN (supported by MEDIA, SEECN and EA “NFC”) and the documentary THE LAST VOYAGE OF “DIANA”; in production (supported by EA “NFC”). 

His 2017 film DIRECTIONS was selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
