Biography

Boudewijn Koole (1965) majored in Industrial Design at the University of Delft. He subsequently trained himself as a documentary filmmaker. In his films, he is always in search of the optimum balance between his interaction with people, his filming and sense of style. His films often focus on children or young people with whom he develops a close working relationship. Illusions are the central theme in most of his work. Koole also works on commission as an editor of VPRO television youth series and is a member of the advisory board of the Stimuleringsfonds and one other leading Dutch art fund. His latest feature, KAUWBOY, premiered in the Generations section of the 2012 Berlinale, where it won the Best First Feature Award as well as the Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk for best youth film. The film has won several awards at international film festivals and is the Dutch entry for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as winning the European Discovery Award, Prix Fipresci. KAUWBOY is currently being shown at festivals worldwide.
