I don't want to have a passive audience; I want them to participate in the story. That's why, in the cinema I tend to make, action happening out of the frame is so important. In that way, I think the unique force and beauty of cinema is to generate collective and empathetic experiences.
Laura Wandel was born in 1984 in Belgium where she studied filmmaking at the IAD school. Her school film MURS (2007) was selected in many festivals around the world. After her first short film O NÉGATIF (2010), she directed the short FOREIGN BODIES (2014), selected in competition at Cannes FF. PLAYGROUND (2021) is her first feature, which premiered and was awarded at Cannes FF.
