Biography

Carolina Markowicz is a screenwriter and director based in São Paulo, Brazil.
Her first short film 69-LUZ SQUARE won several awards around the world, including best short film at Rio De Janeiro IFF and was screened at MoMa-NY. TATUAPE MAHAL TOWER, which premiered at TIFF 2014, was one of the most awarded short films of the year in Brazil and has been selected to more than 200 festivals around the world.
In 2015, she was invited to be part of TIFF Talent Lab, where her mentors were Wim Wenders and Jim Stark. She was selected to Talents Berlinale 2018 and to Locarno Filmmakers Academy, where she was showcased at Indiewire as one of "Some of the world most exciting new filmmakers".
Her third short film, POSTPONED, won Best Screenplay at Festival de Gramado and was at official competition at Festival de Biarritz. Her recent short, THE ORPHAN, premiered at the Director’s Fortnight - Cannes in 2018, and won the Queer Palm. It was also selected to Locarno, TIFF 2018, AFI, and has been collecting many awards worldwide. Her latest short SPIT, co-directed by Neven Samardžić, was selected at the 51st Directors’ Fortnight.
