Ester Martin Bergsmark

I want to challenge how we perceive things that we take for granted by pointing the camera in directions the audience didn´t know they could look at.

Ester Martin Bergsmark’s (1982, Sweden) filmography includes SWALLOW IT (2007) and MAGGIE IN WONDERLAND (2008), both made in collaboration with Mark Hammarberg. The latter was awarded the prize for Best European Documentary at 2009 Doc Alliance and a Guldbagge (Swedish Oscar) for Best Swedish Documentary. Bergsmark then went on to direct their own work: FRUITCAKE (2010) is part of the experimental feminist porn suite Dirty Diaries (2009) and SHE MALE SNAILS (2012) won the Audience Award, Prize for Best Cinematography and Honorary Mention for Best Nordic Film at the Göteborg International Film Festival. Their latest feature film, SOMETHING MUST BREAK (2014), was awarded the 2014 Hivos Tiger Award at International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film also wrote history when the main actress Saga Becker was the first trans woman to receive a Guldbagge for Best Actress. Bergsmark is a graduate of the Swedish University College of Arts, Crafts and Design. WILD PRINCESS is their latest project, presented at CineMart.
