Biography

Since 15, Sarah Marx lived between internships in press agencies and her shootings of popculture videos. On the sets of feature films, she discovered every step of filmmaking. During eighteen months in the US, she followed artists and filmed weddings with the constant concern of staying close to the people. Back in France, she directed rap video clips, and write/directed her first short film, FATUM (2012), in which the main character is already fresh out of jail and struggles to reintegrate the society. That questioning of inequality of opportunities, confinement and the failure of rehabilitation leaf her to shooting a documentary in the prison of Nanterre. For a year, she followed eight prisoners in their daily theater workshop. This work enables her to break free from the form and to focus on the content. L’ENKAS (2018) was born of this experience and commitment.
