Biography

Carlen May-Mann is a writer, director, and artist dedicated to personal and emotive storytelling. Her feature-length screenplay STRAWBERRY SUMMER has been recognized by Tribeca/AT&T Untold Stories (top 15 finalist), the Black List/Women in Film Feature Lab (semifinalist), and the BlueCat Screenplay Competition (semifinalist). The film also secured a Cinereach development grant and is slated to shoot in 2019. Carlen’s work as a director includes two short films -- THE RAT, a horror short that is currently in consideration for several major festivals, and BURN, BABY (2014), shot and edited on 16mm. She has also completed several music videos. Of these, “Home” by The Meltaways debuted on Impose Magazine and “Bite My Tongue” by Eli Sundae debuted on AdHoc. Carlen produces her filmmaking through New York-based film and media collective NITE SHIFT, an organization she co-founded. In the past, Carlen also worked in marketing at Sony Pictures Classics, where she contributed to successful Oscar campaigns for Luca Guadagnino’s CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (2017) and Sebastian Lelio’s A FANTASTIC WOMAN (2017).
