Catarina Mourão

Catarina Mourão

The common denominator to my films is microcosms. I like to film in limited spaces in order to dig in and really get under the skin of the characters and their relationship with the space around them.

Catarina Mourão studied Music, Law and Film at the University of Bristol. In 1998 she founded the Portuguese Documentary Association AporDOC, and since 2000 she has taught Film and Documentary on various courses. Together with filmmaker Catarina Alves Costa she runs Laranja Azul, a production company for creative documentaries and visual arts in Lisbon. She is known for the films THE LADY OF CHANDOR (1999), DESASSOSSEGO (2002), A MINHA ALDEIA JA NAO MORA AQUI (2005), A FLOR DA PELE (2006), THROUGH THE SHADOWS (2010), and THE WOLF'S LAIR (2014), which premiered at IFF Rotterdam and was awarded at IndieLisboa. Her latest short THE HISSING OF SUMMER SANDS (2019) was selected at Visions du Réel and IndieLisboa.
