Biography

Writer/director Najwa Najjar has worked in documentary and fiction since 2000. Her critically acclaimed debut fiction feature was POMEGRANATES AND MYRRH (2009, DIFF) and her second award-winning fiction film EYES OF A THIEF (2014) was Palestine’s submission to the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Her filmography includes several award-winning films such as: NAIM AND WADEE’A (2000), QUINTESSENCE OF OBLIVION (2001), A BOY CALLED MOHAMAD (2002), BLUE GOLD (2004), YASMINE TUGHANI (2006) and THEY CAME FROM THE EAST (2006). Najjar has also produced a collection of short films by international filmmakers entitled GAZA WINTER (2009). She has been a speaker on numerous panels, a jury member at several film festivals and reader and advisor for the Rawi Sundance Scriptwriter’s Lab. She recently presented a Director’s Masterclass at Galway Film Festival 2016.
