I was influenced a lot by magic realist authors who worked with violence in their societies but told stories using allegories and symbols. This is what I want to do.    

Biography

Suba Sivakumaran was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka 1981, grew up in five different countries and currently resides between New York, London and Sri Lanka. She started her career in international development in Sri Lanka and works in the area of humanitarian aid and poverty reduction for the United Nations and other organizations. She has an undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics and a master’s degree from Harvard University, both in politics and public policy. I TOO HAVE A NAME (2012) is her first film, which premiered at the Berlinale in competition for the Golden Bear in 2012 under the shorts section and went on to compete at over 25 other film festivals; including the Dubai IFF, the Cork IFF, Reykjavik IFF, Montreal World Film Festival, Hangzhou Asian FF, Indian FF of Los Angeles, the London Feminist FF and the Istanbul Crime and Punishment FF. Suba also is the co-founder of Palmyrah Talkies, a film production company based in London and in Sri Lanka. HOUSE OF MY FATHERS (2018) is her latest film which premiered at the Busan IFF.
