Biography

Helena Třeštíková was born in 1949 in Prague, Czech Republic. One of the most important Czech documentary filmmakers, she has directed some forty award-winning films since graduating from Prague Film Academy (FAMU) in 1974. She has also worked for a long time in Czech television and directed documentary series WOMEN AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY (ŽENY NA PŘELOMU TISÍCILETÍ, 2000). Recently, Helena Třeštíková’s works have been the subject of retrospectives at several major festivals, including Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (Argentina) and Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (Greece). Her most notable films include TOUCH OF LIGHT (DOTEK SVĚTLA, 1980), LIDA BAAROVA’S BITTERSWEET MEMORIES (SLADKÉ HOŘKOSTI LÍDY BAAROVÉ, 1995), MARCELA (2006), RENÉ (2008).
