Emily Tang



Born in 1970 in Sichuan Province, China and grew up in Beijing. She studied French literature and language at Peking University before gaining a Master of Arts in Drama from the Chinese National Institute of Arts. She produced and directed documentaries for Chinese Central Television (CCTV) in 1997. She studied directing at the Central Academy of Drama the following year, laying the foundations for her career as a film director. She directed her first dramatic feature film CONJUGATION in 2001 which was selected for the Locarno Film Festival's competition section and received a special mention. Her second film, PERFECT LIFE (08) was screened at the Orizzonti Section at the Venice screened at the Orizzonti Section at the Venice 2008, and won the Dragons and Tigers Award at the 2009 Vancouver IFF. In 2012, her third film, All Apologies, entered the main competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival and won the Jury Prize at HKIFF.
