Rûken Tekes, Kurdish born on 1976 in Diyarbakir - Turkey. She is a human rights expert and worked for several years for the United Nations before becoming a lecturing professor at universities. She started script writing and directing films on social, political and environmental issues in 2015 after having a severe injury that made her stay six months in bed. She is the founder of production company SARYA FILMS COLLECTIVE, which produces her films and supports women in cinema. THE CIRCLE (2016) is her first short film, nominated for "European Short Film"- 30th European Film Academy Awards (Best Film by an Emerging Director - Chicago Int. Children's FF, Clermont-Ferrand FF - Best Short Film nominated, Best Short Film & German Independence Award - Oldenburg FF, PRIX EFA Drama - Drama Int. FF, Audience Awards - !F Istanbul FF and Diversity in Cannes, Special Mentions - Minneapolis St. Paul FF and Film Femmes Méditerraneée FF, screened over 200 festivals and in the primary schools of USA, Italy, France, Spain and China). Her debut feature, AETHER (2019), premiered at Visions du Réel, International Competition.
