Biography

Prasanna Vithanage directed his first film FIRE ON ICE (aka SISILA GINI GANI) in 1992, and four years later his second feature DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL (aka ANANTHA RATHRIYA, 1996), which he also wrote. His third feature, WALLS WITHIN (aka PAWURU WALALU), followed in 1997, for which Nita Fernando won the Best Actress Award at the 1998 Singapore International Film Festival for her role as Violet. His fourth feature, DEATH ON A FULL MOON (aka PURAHANDA KALUWARA, 1997), which he wrote and directed, was produced by NHK (the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation) and won the Grand Prix at the Amiens International Film Festival. AUGUST SUN (aka IRA MADIYAMA), his fifth film, was completed in 2003, and 2008 saw the world premiere of his sixth feature film as director, FLOWERS IN THE SKY (aka AKASA KUSUM), in Busan, Korea. In 2012, his seventh feature film WITH YOU, WITHOUT YOU (aka OBA NATHUWA OBA EKKA) premiered in Montreal.
