Biography

Lei Yuan Bin (born 1977) is a founding member of the film collective 13 Little Pictures. He was conferred the Young Artist Award in 2012 by the National Arts Council, Singapore’s highest award for young arts practitioners. Lei's directorial debut WHITE DAYS (2009) has been praised by film scholar, Professor Gilbert Yeoh to be “one of the rare films in Singapore cinema that invites the viewer to rethink the aesthetics of cinema.” The film was screened to international audiences in Berlin, Rome, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore.
03-FLATS, Lei's second feature, is a collaboration with the National University of Singapore's Architecture department and was selected for documentary competition at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival 2014. Also an acclaimed cinematographer, Lei has shot notable independent Singaporean films such as RED DRAGONFLIES, Directed by Liao Jiekai (Jury Prize, Jeonju International Film Festival) and HAZE by Anthony Chen (Berlinale Shorts competition), and most recently, AS YOU WERE , Directed by Liao Jiekai, In Competition in Asian Future of Tokyo International Film Festival 2014. Lei was mentored by film maestro Hou Hsiao-Hsien at the Asian Film Academy (Busan) and worked on Tsai Ming Liang's Visage. Lei is also a Sociology graduate from the National University of Singapore.
