La Semaine de la Critique
- France
- Cannes
- 57th edition
9 - 17 May 2018
A section of the Cannes Film Festival, La Semaine de la Critique has, since its inception, focused on discovering and highlighting new talent in filmmaking. Founded in 1962 by the French Union of Film Critics, this festival aims to throw the spotlight on first and second works by filmmakers from all around the world. Such leading lights as Jacques Audiard, Alejandro González Iñarritu, Ken Loach, François Ozon, Wong Kar Wai or more recently César Augusto Acevedo, Julia Ducournau, David R. Mitchell, Santiago Mitre, Jeff Nichols or Rebecca Zlotowski were first introduced to the public eye at La Semaine de la Critique. The festival showcases a tight selection of seven feature films and ten short and medium-length films in competition, a deliberately reduced number of films in order to ensure maximum visibility.
