    Alvaro Brechner was born in 1976 in Montevideo. His debut feature film, BAD DAY TO GO FISHING (2009), premiered in Critics' Week at Cannes and screened at over 60 film festivals, collecting more than 30 awards. His second feature from 2014, the comedy drama MR. KAPLAN, was distributed in 25 countries and was nominated at the Premios Platinos, the Goya Awards 2015, the Ariel Awards 2015 and at the José María Forqué Awards. Both of Brechner’s films represented Uruguay in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards.
