Binod Paudel is a respected Kathmandu-based filmmaker, writer and actor. Affiliated with the esteemed Tribhuvan University, he also heads Oscar International College, which offers Nepal’s only Bachelor in Film Studies. Today, Oscar’s students and alumni are creating a new wave of naturalistic cinema. As the writer of the critically-acclaimed feature SAANGHURO (2013), he received the National and Critics Awards and the prestigious SAARC Film Festival ‘Best Fiction Feature’ prizes. SAANGHURO was the first Nepali movie acquired and broadcast on the UK’s CHANNEL 4. Additionally, he was awarded the “Best Writer of the Year” by Nepal’s President at the 2013 National Award and Critics Society of Nepal ceremony. BULBUL (2019) his first feature as writer/director, was released across Nepal in 2019. It collected some of this year’s best audience responses and is already regarded as the ‘Top Film of (Nepali year) 2077’ by national publications for its poetic realism, fresh naturalistic take and unforgettable characters. Since then he has been a Jury member of several film festivals including his country’s premiere National Awards and the Alpaviram film fest in India. With Akron International, Binod looks forward to taking his intimate cinematic vision to the next level.
