    In the early morning fog, on a snowy road, a shock on the hood of Macha’s car: this is Mo, her 17-year-old son, with whom she broke all ties. Through mountains, the son takes his mother for their last journey together. Today, Mo will join mountain infantrymen, elite soldiers in the French military.

    Manon Coubia graduated from the Insas in Belgium. Following her 2012 documentary Bleu Cerise, she directed the short L’Immense retour in 2016. The film won the Léopard d’or in Locarno and the Premio Pianifica at the European Awards. In 2017, CHILDREN LEAVE AT DAWN was screened at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. The film depicts a relationship breakdown between mother and child, shot between daylight and night and punctuated by powerful moments, heavy with unspoken emotions.
