Ato Bautista is one of the most exciting genuine filmmakers in the Philippines today. He is known as a young maverick producer and director who make strong and acclaimed genre films. At the age of twenty four, he made his debut film SA AKING PAGKAKAGISING MULA SA KAMULATAN (MY AWAKENING FROM CONSCIOUSNESS), a street violence-drama-thriller that reached acclaimed status locally and internationally. Bautista followed it up with the psychological horror BLACKOUT, a film that toured film festivals all over North America and got rave reviews in every state it was shown, proclaiming him as a young Filipino auteur. He made hybrid thrillers like CARNIVORE, a socio-political-drama-thriller which won him Best Director at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival, and DI NATATAPOS ANG GABI (THE NIGHT INFINITE), a surreal-mystery-noir which got him the Lino Grand Prize at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival, and CINCO (episode: Eyes), a film he made with Star Cinema, the biggest film studio in the Philippines. Bautista’s latest obra was PALITAN (EXCHANGE), an erotic thriller which premiered last year for Cinema One Originals which bagged the Best Actor and Best Actress Award from the festival. Palitan had its nationwide release last May this year. Bautista also finished an action-romantic-thriller, REMATADO (FOREFEITED), to premiere soon. At the young age of thirty two, he is on to his seventh feature film, MGA ALAALA NG TAG-ULAN (MEMORIES OF RAIN), a dark coming of age story to premiere at the Cinefilipino Film Festival this September.
