To have the work recognized by the jury, to know that they and the other people understood what I was attempting to do, is a reward in itself.
Anocha Suwichakornpong graduated from the MFA film programme at Columbia University. GRACELAND, her thesis film, was the first short film from Thailand included in the Official Selection at the Festival de Cannes Cinéfondation. Suwichapornkong’s first feature, MUNDANE HISTORY, won numerous awards at festivals, including a Tiger award at Rotterdam, the Grand Prix at Transylvania and New Horizons, and she was named Best Director at Mumbai. She founded Electric Eel Films, a production house based in Bangkok, and is active as both a director and producer. Her second feature, BY THE TIME IT GETS DARK, has screened in over 50 film festivals including Locarno, Toronto, BFI London, Viennale, and Rotterdam.
