    Thom Vander Beken (1977) is a Belgian director working and living in Brussels. After becoming a Master in Dutch and English literature at Ghent University, he went on to obtain a Masters degree in directing from St-Lukas film school in Brussels. His first film IK DROOMDE ONS (2002) was an intimate portrait of a complicated mother-and-son relationship. The film won the student’s award at the Viewpoint film festival. His graduation film ALICE (2004) was screened on several (inter)national documentary film festivals, was awarded with a special prize at the COURTizane festival in Ghent, Belgium. The film investigated the boundaries between fiction and reality in a psychiatric hospital just outside Ghent. His film LOST IN TRANSITION follows the story of youths in modern-day Serbia. His film I KNOW YOU ARE THERE (2017) screened at Visions du Réel.
