Synopsis

A self-financed production, KARAMAN is about a new generation in Turkey which wants to rid itself of the burden of its ancestors and live life on its own terms. Zehra, studying foreign languages, travels from Istanbul to Karaman, a small town in central Anatolia, to spend the weekend with her family. It has been five years since she decided to wear the hijab. And she tries to find a way to be both modern and a Muslim. But disagreements between her and her brother Erol grow as he thinks that her way of Islam is only a facade. Her father, a widower and ex-military officer, is also critical, and he is worried. There is one more thing that Zehra wants to tell her father, but only finds the courage to do so on the last day of her visit.
