Sophy Romvari is a filmmaker born in Victoria, British Colum-bia, and based in Toronto. She earned a Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts from Capilano University in Vancouver in 2014 before moving to Toronto in 2016, where she studies Film Production at York University and is working to complete her Masters thesis. Her boundary-pushing hybrid fiction has earned her international acclaim and placed her on the vanguard of independent filmmaking in Canada.
Hailed by the CBC as one of “the most exciting up-and-com-ing women in the industry,” Romvari “has been turning heads on the festival circuit with her impressive oeuvre of short film work.” Her nonfiction short PUMPKIN MOVIE, a playful satire about toxic masculinity, premiered in 2018 at the True/False film festival in Missouri before bowing at Sheffield Doc/Fest, Hot Docs, and the Maryland Film Festival to critical adoration. Her latest short, the experimental canine documentary NORMAN NORMAN, is an Official Selection at this year ’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it will have its world premiere.
