There's no way to handle Matsumoto's nutty storytelling unless you're willing to just sit back and take it.
Cult Japanese filmmaker Hitoshi Matsumoto delivers another delightfully skewed and oddball film.
I love dogs so much, I want to put mayonnaise on them and eat them.
One of the most prominent and successful comedians in Japan for over a decade, Matsumoto has been a leading figure for many years in the Japanese entertainment industry. In 2007, Matsumoto made his directorial debut with the feature film BIG MAN JAPAN which was screened in the Director’s Fortnight section at Cannes International Film Festival.
The film has since garnered further critical acclaims at several international film festivals including Toronto and Pusan. Building on BIG MAN JAPAN's commercial success in Japan, Matsumoto came back to the silver screen with his second feature, SYMBOL. SCABBARD SAMURAI (2011) is his third feature film.
Matsumoto started his career with the comedy duo Downtown in 1982, and has often acted as a writer, director, producer, and actor in numbers of his own TV projects.
