Making documentaries is always a matter of gaining the confidence of your characters.
Born in Brazil in 1965. After a Master in Philosophy at the Sorbonne (Paris), he started his career in Lisbon as a journalist. Eventually he became a producer and an awarded director for documentaries that were screened in more than 40 countries. Most of his documentaries such as OUTRO PAÍS (1999), FLEURETTE (2002), LISBOETAS (2005), THE CITY OF THE DEAD (2009) were released in cinemas. Sérgio Tréfaut has been the director of Doclisboa International Film Festival from 2004 to 2010 and President of the Portuguese Documentary Association. His first fiction JOURNEY TO PORTUGAL (2011) with Maria de Medeiros and Isabel Ruth received 3 international prizes and several awards in Portugal.
