Michiel van Erp (Eindhoven, 1963) graduated in 1988 from the Technical University in Delft (Industrial Design). From 1988 until 1992 he worked as an actor for various theatre companies. He started his career as a director in 1993. His documentary series LANG LEVE... (LONG LIVE...), about Dutch people and their hopes and desires, raan for 7 years on Dutch Television. It won national and international awards. His long documentary A FUNFAIR BEHIND THE DIKES (2007), about the leisure industry in the Netherlands was a huge success in Dutch cinemas and shown at many film festivals around the world. In 2009 the documentary FEAR followed. This movie about people struggling with various anxiety disorders caused quite a stir when it was released in Dutch cinemas. Van Erp’s films cover many subjects, for example DON'T FORGET ME (2002) a portrait of singer Mary Servaes from the perspective of her fans, STUCK (2008), which shows how people spend their time while stuck in traffic, ON BEAUTY AND FALL (2009) about the famous photographer Erwin Olaf, and BEATRIX, QUEEN (2009) a portrait of Dutch Queen Beatrix. His international documentary I AM A WOMAN NOW (2011) covers the first generation of transsexuals, who had their sex change in Casablanca back in the 1950s to 1970s. The film won (international-) awards and was released through Europe. MH17 : A NATION'S GRIEF (2015) gives an impressive insight into the way the crashing of the MH17 in Ukraine affected the lives of the Dutch people. His drama series-debut RAMSES (2014) was a huge success and won several (inter-) national awards: e.g. Nipkowschijf (best tv-program of the year), Prix Europa (best European dramaseries). DDG Award (best director) and a Golden Calf and Int. Emmy-Award for best actor Maarten Heijmans. Michiel van Erp also directs stage plays for several Dutch theatre companies and wrote two books. Since 2004 Van Erp is, together with producer Monique Busman, co-owner of production company De Familie Film & TV.
