Farid Bentoumi
Algeria
After many years of studying and extensive travelling, Farid Bentoumi settled down in theatre. Trained in improvisation, he played Novarina, Beckett, Brecht, Racine and directed and co-wrote several plays. In 2005, he began writing for cinema. After EL MIGRI, a documentary on his French-Algerian family, he directed ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH, a dreamlike, off-beat fiction which was awarded at many festivals. His third short, BURNERS (Special Jury Prize – Muhr Arab Shorts, DIFF 2011; Winterthur, Cinemed), was nominated for the French Critics Award and Unifrance Award 2012. Bentoumi is currently rewriting his first feature film YOU ARE ALGERIA (with Noé Debré and Thomas Bidegain), for which he has won a residency at the Moulin d’Ande and subsidies for the rewriting from the CNC.
