What the melodrama does, is to force us, through the excess use of passion, of emotional extortion, to see the truth.

Syllas Tzoumerkas (1978, Greece) studied theatre, film directing and acting in Athens, Utrecht and New York. He has directed short films including THE DEVOURING EYES (Cinéfondation, 2001 Cannes Film Festival; Jury Prize, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival), TV documentaries and the feature films HOMELAND (International Critics’ Week, 2010 Venice Film Festival) A BLAST (International Competition, 2014 Locarno International Film Festival) and THE MIRACLE OF THE SARGASSO SEA (Panorama section, 2019 Berlin International Film Festival).
