    Drama

Lis is a teenage girl whose dream is to become a circus artist and leave the small village she calls her hometown, although she knows that doing so will imply a bitter confrontation with her parents. It's summertime and Lis spends her days hanging out on the village streets with her friends and flirting with her boyfriend, Nestor, who is a few years older than her. The lack of privacy and endless gossiping among the neighbors compel Lis to keep her relationship with Nestor a secret to ensure that her parents don’t find out. When the idyllic summer comes to an end, Lis will have to fight to secure her independence and overcome the challenges that adulthood brings.

    Director's Statement

I began by writing a biographical story; at 30 years old and without much of a background in film — I grew up on the streets of a small town — I felt that if I was going to tell a good, honest story in a realistic way, it would need to be about something I had actually experienced. But once the actors had breathed life into the characters, it no longer felt so much like my story.

Lucia Alemany was born in 1985 in Traiguera, a small Valencian town, where she grew up until the age of 18. She then traveled to Vic to start a degree in Communication Studies. In 2009, she moved to Barcelona and she began her studies at the ESCAC (The Cinema’s School to Catalonia). During those four years of investigation and incessant work, she learned how to give life to characters as well as how to capture the most sincere and pure emotion, which is spontaneous and real at the same time. Extracting real impulses from reality and returning again to the world transformed onto screen. Her passion for extreme realism led to perform several practices with non-professional actors and rely on improvisation to generate an engine of conflicts. After all this relentless pursuit for truth through interpretation, 14 YEARS AND ONE DAY was born. Shot in her hometown, in her mother tongue and with girls who play themselves as open as possible. THE INNOCENCE (2019) is her first feauture film.
