Continuing the series started by INTERVENED EVENTS (2014), Buenos Aires’ Film Museum presents the second feature fully made with footage from its archives by fourteen renowned Argentine filmmakers (among them Celina Murga, Daniel Rosenfeld, José Celestino Campusano, Mateo Bendesky, Matías Piñeiro and Nele Wohlatz). It’s made up of nine issues of the “Argentine Film school,” a project created in 1948 by Argentina’s secretary of Education, during Juan Domingo Perón’s first presidency. It promoted “the use of cinema as a teaching tool destined to complete the task of educating and providing culture, mainly regarding the exaltation of the feelings of nationality, with the heroic example of historical figures, Christian morals and the multiple civil duties, both large and small.” It was due to this that most of the films produced by the “Argentine Film school” had scientific spreading and the touristic promotion of different regions of the country as their subject matter.

Nele Wohlatz's fragment is called THREE SENTENCES ABOUT ARGENTINA (2016), where she continues exploring language as a rehearsal space as she also does in THE FUTURE PERFECT (Best First Film at the FF Locarno).

We cannot really know who we are, and therefore I prefer it when actors don’t try and interpret their role as such — I feel cheated sometimes by over-explanation. It’s much more intriguing not to explain everything.

Born in Hannover, Germany, in 1982, Nele Wohlatz studied Set Designing at the HfG Karlsruhe in that country. She directed the short film COUNTRYSIDE LOVERS (2009) and the feature-length film RICARDO BÄR (2013) with Gerardo Naumann. They were followed by THE PERFECT BACKPACK (2014) and THE FUTURE PERFECT (2016), Best First Feature at FF Locarno and New Auteurs Grand Jury Award at the AFI FEST. Recently she has directed THREE SENTENCES FOR ARGENTINA, included in the Argentinian collective work INTERVENED EVENTS (2016).
