"I want to give a view of the world that can only emerge by not pursuing any particular theme, by refraining from passing judgment, proceeding without aim. Drifting with no direction except one’s own curiosity and intuition.” (Michael Glawogger) More than two years after the sudden death of Michael Glawogger in April 2014, film editor Monika Willi realizes a film out of the film footage produced during 4 months and 19 days of shooting in the Balkans, Italy, Northwest and West Africa.

Willa has crafted something which feels achingly personal and, at times, genuinely profound.

    Wendy Ide, Screen Daily

The director’s eye for wondrous settings, imposing landscapes, and unique peoples and rituals is on offer throughout the film, reiterating that there wasn’t a place Glawogger couldn’t – or wouldn’t – take his camera.

    Jordan Cronk, BFI

The footage is characteristically striking and Willi’s dexterous editing injects the film with propulsive energy.

    Giovanni Marchini Camia, MUBI

One of the very best I’ve seen at this year’s Berlinale.

Michael Glawogger (1959-2014) was a director, writer and cinematographer and his work in each of these roles displays a broad spectrum. His recent works ranged from the literary adaptation KILL DADDY GOOD NIGHT (2009) and the quirky comedies SLUGS (2004) and CONTACT HIGH (2009) to his essayist documentaries MEGACITIES (2009) and WORKINGMAN'S DEATH (2004). He not only moved back and forth between cinematic forms and genres, but also between filmmaking, photography and writing - and between gentler and more forceful tones. With WHORE'S GLORY (2011) he completed his trilogy on the world of work. Glawogger died in 2014 whilst directing UNTITLED in Liberia, which was completed by Monika Willi in 2017.
